If you remember this guy from almost exactly a year ago, well, he's still around:
There's been another rabbit hanging around with him, too, though she (?) is much more shy. I'll post a photo of them together if I can. Cute couple.
It's a long weekend here in Canada, and I took this afternoon off to add to it. I'm catching the train to Belleville later this afternoon t go and join my friends D & R at their cottage for the long weekend. Real downtime!
This is the view from their back deck, where I sit and watch bunnies and birdies and chipmunks and rest my urban eyes on refreshing fractal images instead of rectilinear ones for a few days.
It may look grayer and damper than this, since it's not predicted to be a sunny weekend, but it's still time away, with D feeding me fine stuff (she's chef-trained) and both of them thinking I'm a great guest because I don't expect them to entertain me.
Speaking of decks, my kid sister provided me with these at the Mother's Day get-together.
Yes, the next seven books in the seafaring Aubrey/Maturin series, of which I've already plowed through one and a half since Sunday. I'm tempted to do nothing but bring several and do nothing but read all weekend, but I'm also mindful of the great expanse of writing time the cottage offers, so I'll be working on the new novel, too. And rewarding myself with virtual turns upon the quarterdeck with Jack and Stephen.
We have all the conveniences up there except internet, so I won't see you peeps on Vox till sometime Monday. Take care!

Jason Yudoff just released his second studio album, Tragic Hero last Tuesday, May 13th. Apparently this album's been hitting the music industry rounds for a while now, because, despite just officially released to the general public, it's already been nominated in the 2008 Grammy Ballot in four categories: "Best New Artist", "Album of the Year", "Record of the Year" (for the song "Personal Addict") and "Producer of the Year" (Ron Thaler).
Since the song "Personal Addict" is nominated for "Record of the Year", I thought it that would best represent him: a little funk and jam. Even his funky voice on this song sounds a little like Jamiroquai, doesn't it?
I also really liked the frantic piano-driven song, "Locked in a Box", which really shows off Yudoff's piano-playing skill.
There's also a studio version of "Too Late Janie", which originally appeared on his live album, LIVE at The Cutting Room, which sounds a little more controlled. It even sounds better in the studio, but I did missed the improvised piano in the middle of the live version.
Tragic Hero is out now, you can find his music on amazon and itunes as well as cd baby. He's playing one show in New York at the Make Music at the Waterside Plaza on June 21st.

Hi guys,
For anyone that has been following this soap opera, my Uncle came out of the surgery at 5pm...so it ran from 7:30am to 5pm. Can you imagine how tired the surgeon and staff must have been? The first surgery my Uncle had, when he was brought into the city because of that incompetent small-hospital surgeon, was begun around 8pm and lasted into the wee hours of the morning. She caused "severe injuries", we were told. Well, trying to murder the poor man would be considered "severe", I would think. *smile*
Anyways, he made it through and is now in ICU. It just is up to him to survive. Whether he has the strength left or not is yet to be seen, and as most people know, patients don't usually die in the Operating Room but during recovery. His poor body has been through so much, and he even went into a deep depression while waiting to build up his strength for this second surgery (they gave him anti-depressants for that). He still wasn't strong enough, but he hasn't been able to keep any food down for the past 4 days, didn't have the strength to walk anymore, and his legs and toes were beginning to have spasms and twitching. They couldn't wait any longer. But he made it through, the tough old man! I just hope he recovers because the staff has been making us quite aware that the body can only take so much. And he was weak to begin with, going into this second major surgery. Apparently they stated that it was more complicated than they had anticipated. Well, if you have bile leaking out into your body.....since the first repair surgery wasn't a COMPLETE success but they were just trying to give him time to gain his strength.....I can't imagine how many organs and body structures that bile could have damaged. He was just slowly dying again, poor man.
Prayers would be appreciated. He has quite a battle in front of him, and he may just want to go Home and be done with this world by now. Who could blame him? Remind me never to get gall stones...or ANY stones for that matter! Actually, no surgeries would be a good idea all around!!!! Lol.
Thanks for reading our little soap opera, and I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks.
1.Well, one day...possibly three days in the hospital for gall stones.
2. Surgeon completely severs bile duct from liver...oh well...sews him back up and sends him back to a regular hospital room to die.
3. Nurses finally get him into the city after ONE WEEK because he obviously was not reacting properly, and the surgeon wouldn't come visit her patient.
4. Doctors did emergency surgery here, lasting into the wee hours of the morning for the severe injuries done to him.
5. Four months later, he can't even keep any food down or walk (after having a lung collapse and blood clots in the other lung).
6. Went in for second major surgery this morning at 7:30am....it is now 4:00pm....just heard it will be another hour in the operating room.
7. Will be going straight to ICU for a few days
8. If he survives, then he'll go to Recovery for a few days
9. If he survives, then he'll be transferred to a surgical floor to heal.
That surgeon should be not only lose her license to practice, but be put in jail for murder (the sliced artery on another patient) and attempted murder on my uncle (she knew he would DIE with his bile duct not even attached to his liver!).
They say for every person who gets caught stealing a car, that they have already stolen 4-5 more without getting caught. How many deaths has this woman caused already?
I'll let you know what happens.
Okay, so I've never been an avid calendar user (too much work!), but lately I've been organizing myself with W♥M Calendar so I know which concert dates to attend and what CDs are being release when. Since I also use Outlook for calendaring, Google does offer Calendar Sync which seamlessly sync both outlook and W♥M calendar (so I can manage offline or online).
I believe the calendar is shared among all the weheartmusic.com users by default (but you can set it to private or "friends only"), so, anyroad, I know someone will be attending Hellapop Festival (May 24). This looks really fun, and I would be there too if I lived in California.
I thought I'd mention two bands doing this festival that I thought looked interesting.
Tinkture looks like a group of very young ladies, into DIY punk, possibly Riot. I thought "Pyrotechnics" is a very fast and feels very garagey. The vocals has a southern sound to it too. I generally like these DIY punk, as you've probably figured from my various punk articles.
I couldn't help but think of Supergrass's "Alright" when I heard "Farther Away" by Shadow Puppet Theatre. These guys looks very hip and are snappy dressers on top of that. Plus, they seem like they would hang out at all night cafes. They are from Modesto, and consists of singer/guitarist, Adam Bishop, and upright bassist, Jessica Jones.
These are only two of the many, many bands that's attending the Hellapop Festival, so be sure to check them out. That Team Awesome sounds pretty fun, as well as Charlie Don't Surf (which may have stolen their title from Apocalypse Now, but they seem too young to actually have seen that movie - so I vote for Veronica Mars).

This is just for yuks, folks; what you see is what you get. I'm not expecting to get rich with this. So far, all I have is the "NO BLEEN" sign on some shirts & stuff. I'll be adding more, I'm sure.
And hey, if you have suggestions for more merchandise ideas that I could actually design (and you'd want to actually buy), I'll be happy to listen. Comment away!
Since joining Sellaband, she's been gaining "believers" (657 to be exact) and has raised enough money to record a full-length. Today marks the release of her debut album, It Might Like You, and is also Sellaband's first release by a Polish artist. As a promotion for the past month, she's been posting short teasers on Youtube that are quite... umm... uhh... well... just watch them. There are two versions of the album; the regular edition with all the tracks and a limited edition with extra goodies that includes a twenty-three minute video documentary on the making of the album, "Billy Elliot" music video, the five video teasers, the album as mp3s (so there's no need to wait for the tracks to encode), and photos from the recording session. The website for the album includes a feature where you can create your own cover by allowing you to draw on a square portrait of Julia. Quite an interesting idea.
There will be a listening session for the album on Sellaband starting at 8pm EST for Believers and 9pm EST for the rest of the world.

Grab your helmet, check the air in your tires, and hop on your bike because in many U.S. cities, May 12 - 16 is Bike to Work Week! Six Apart has a lot of biking enthusiasts, so we're very excited to support this event by encouraging all of our employees to bike to work this week. San Francisco's Bike to Work Day is tomorrow, Thursday, May 15th, and New York's is Friday, May 16th.
Six Apart is helping out its employees by providing maps (shaded according to steepness - a must in SF!) to help everyone plan out his/her route, as well as finding first-time riders buddies to commute with. We're also supporting ALL SF riders who pass the front of our office by handing out coffee, juice and snacks from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. tomorrow morning. If you're in our neighborhood, look for the sign that says "Six Apart Supports Bike to Work Day" and stop by to say hi and get energized!
Improve your health, financial status, productivity, and happiness by joining thousands - maybe even millions - of commuters around the country who are hopping on their bikes to get to work. Visit the Bike to Work Week website to find out more about events in your area.
Support the two-wheeled way of life with the "Passing Left" theme found in "Photo-Based" in the Design Area. Planning on cycling to work this week? Let us know in the comments!
